1. 1798THE FIRST AMERICAN BANK ROBBERY

More than $162,000 went missing from the vaults of the Bank of Pennsylvania . The culprit was caught when he started depositing money in the same bank from which he had just robbed.



2. 1855 - The Great Gold Robbery

In May at Paris during the train journey between England and France, around 12,000 British pounds worth of gold bullion had simply vanished.



3. 1914 - The Rodda company arms heist

26 August in Calcutta, British India (Members of Anushilan Samiti) intercepted Pistols and ammunition belonging to Messrs Rodda and were able to make away with a portion the arms.



4. 1950 - The Great Brink’s Robbery

An 11-member crew looted $2.775 million .but less than $60,000 of the score was ever recovered.



5. 1963 - The Great Train Robbery of 1963

A gang of 15 thieves stole more than $7 million in banknotes—the equivalent of $60.5 million today from a Royal Mail train.



6. 1972 - The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

In 1972, armed robbers left the building with 50 works of art. The initial loss $2 million. The “Skylight Caper” remains unsolved.



7. 1976 - British Bank of the Middle East: The “Brute” Force

On January 20 , a group associated with Palestine reportedly walked away with up to $50 million worth of gold, cash, stocks, and jewels.



8. 1978 - The Lufthansa Heist

Jimmy Burke put together a crew and loaded up 72 cartons of the untraceable money. It was a haul worth $5 million in cash with an additional $875,000 in jewels.



9. 1985 - National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City

On Christmas eve, 140 objects were stolen from the museum. Just one of the vases alone was worth over $20 million then.



10. 1990 - Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston

13 artworks worth $500 million today were stolen by thieves . The missing pieces include a Rembrandt, Manet, and a few by Degas.



11. 2003 - The Antwerp Diamond Heist

The estimated worth of the missing items was more than $100 million.



12. 2014 - Punjab National Bank

Four thieves dug their way up a 125-feet-long tunnel to Punjab National bank, broke into 89 lockers, robbing valuables worth Rs. 100 crore.
